Turquoise Heart Arabesque Life Feather

EXCLUSIVE TO SUNDOWN

The most complex thing Shun makes.

The eagle's tail feather joined at the quill to the small chest feather that covers the bird's heart, with a Sleeping Beauty turquoise set into it and karakusa (唐草模様) engraved the whole length by hand.

This American turquoise is pale blue with hardly any veining, while the mine in Arizona is permanently closed, so the remaining stock is very rare.

The engraving is cut after the stamping, so a slip there means starting the piece again.

It carries Life on the back, transferring that energy to your body.

"Imbued with the energy of life itself,
it guides the wearer to a better path."

- Katou Shun

Sam’s note

Left-facing or right-facing makes no difference to the piece. It is purely preference, so pick the shape you like — or one of each if you are wearing more than one.

Care

Made to age

The silver darkens as you wear it. That is the point, not a fault to fix.

It goes fastest in the stamped lines, which is where most of the detail sits, so the pattern reads more clearly the longer you own it.

If you would rather have it bright, a polishing cloth brings the shine back. Turquoise takes a cloth but never chemicals, which will damage the stone, and silver dips lift the dark out of the stamped lines as well, taking the detail with it.

In Japan an almost black patina is read as a sign of long use. This work is made to age.

The chains fasten with a hook rather than a lobster clasp, so take yours off before swimming or bathing.
